Reliable releases in critical production

Context

In banking, a production failure hits the business directly. The challenge was to ship features and fixes frequently without putting service stability at risk.

My role

Release management lead: cross-team coordination and handling of change requests (CRQs) through to go-live.

Decisions and actions

I put in place a validation process before each deployment to prevent failures, and I coordinate the teams involved in every release window.

Result

Deployments run every two weeks on a sustained basis, with no production incidents and no impact on the business.

Learning

Reliability and frequency aren't at odds: with a clear validation process you can deploy often and with peace of mind.
